- The Chief Minister will return on Wednesday, a final decision is likely on the same day
- The High Court is also hearing on the certificates of Gupta’s wife and others
- The government is considering legal options, Wednesday is the decisive day
Ranchi: The situation is in confusion regarding the continuation of DGP Anurag Gupta in the post. After the letter from the central government, this matter has now become more sensitive. The Center has directed the Jharkhand government to retire Anurag Gupta, calling the decision to retain him as DGP after April 30 wrong।
Here, the state government is also considering many options regarding this matter. According to sources, the state government can request the Center to reconsider while retaining Anurag Gupta in the post. At the same time, if there is no agreement on this, then the state government may have to choose a new DGP and in such a situation Anurag Gupta will have to take compulsory retirement.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, there was a stir in the Home Department regarding the files related to the DGP throughout the day. However, the final decision will be taken only after Chief Minister Hemant Soren returns from his foreign tour. The Chief Minister and his Additional Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar are likely to return to Ranchi on Wednesday.
Another case related to this issue is pending in the Jharkhand High Court. A PIL seeking investigation into the educational certificates of DGP Anurag Gupta’s wife and IPS officer Priya Dubey, and Santosh Dubey was heard on Tuesday. Petitioner Arun Kumar has alleged that the PG level certificates of the concerned officers are fake and has demanded a CBI inquiry. The court has reserved the decision for the time being. However, during the hearing, the court expressed displeasure over the relevance of the PIL and also reprimanded the petitioner.
The state government is also considering legal options against the Centre’s directive. If it approaches the High Court, it will have to take this step by Wednesday itself, as this is the last day of the deadline of the Centre’s letter.
Meanwhile, all the old notifications and provisions are being studied by the legal advisors of the state government so that appropriate action can be taken.
