Bermo: The existence of the river is getting endangered due to illegal mining of sand from Damodar river adjoining the border area of Bokaro Thermal and Petarwar police station. Illegal mining of sand from the river is being done by tractors from the ghat near Khetko, Asanpani, Champi and Sarhachia. Due to this, pits have been formed here and there in the river, which can be dangerous. On the other hand, government revenue is also being lost every day. Earlier, illegal sand was transported by tractors in daylight on Kathara main road. But now it starts in the evening and continues throughout the night. Recently, sand transportation was stopped for a day or two due to installation of CCTV cameras at Kathara main square by the district administration. When the smugglers came to know that the cameras were not being switched on, the illegal transportation of sand increased.
